An OLMC initiative that has been running for over a decade now, we enjoyed three days with 20 campers and lots of students who volunteered as buddies and catering crew. Their time, patience, energy, positivity, and commitment made it a really fun and successful experience! OLMC Staff and students provided support, food, companionship, and wonderful experiences for the Exodus Community kids. Their parents were pleased to have the break, to have some great mentors, and started the rest of their school holidays with some planning and down time.
A new aspect this year was a new space for cooking and meals. Our catering crew at 'Cafe Heide' worked tirelessly and we enjoyed a variety of hot meals, lots of choice, and healthy options. Eating together and in a nice space such as our DAT building made it a really nice outing away from the busyness of the Nalleijering Centre. Families really appreciated the meals we provided - the take-home dinners were a huge hit.
OLMC students and the kids put on a mini performance of Shrek and lots of 'Just Dance' in the Mercedes Hogan Theatre, as well as fun activities like face painting, a reptiles incursion, circus skills, lots of drawing and painting, sport and games.
The staff and student support is invaluable, and I hope they will return in 2026.
Year 12s who gave up their time at this stressful period - we really thank you for your commitment this year and past years.
